Neymar Jr.: 'Why would I want to leave PSG?'

- in Ligue 1

Neymar Jr. has reaffirmed his commitment to Paris Saint-Germain, asking France Football “why would I want to leave here?” when questioned about his future.

The world’s most expensive footballer when he swapped FC Barcelona for PSG in August 2017, the Brazilian forward was heavily linked with a return to his former club last summer.

Instead he stayed in the French capital and – injury permitting – has starred for the defending Ligue 1 Conforama champions, contributing seven goals and three assists to their title defence so far.

‘Why leave?’

“Why would I want to leave here?” Neymar smiled during an interview with the French weekly magazine. “I’ve got another two years on my contract and the team keeps improving. We must stay focused on doing things well this season and winning as many titles as possible.

Neymar has added five pieces of silverware to his glittering trophy cabinet since arriving in France, winning two Ligue 1 Conforamas as well as a Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophée des Champions.

Champions League ambition

The UEFA Champions League – which he won in 2015 with Barcelona – has this far eluded the club, but having been drawn against Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 on Monday, the forward is confident PSG can go on to become European champions.

“This season, the aim is the Champions League,” he said. “And my priority is PSG, ensuring maximum involvement every week. The aim is always to win the next match and push for the club. That’s how I see it.”
