Angel Di Maria has highlighted the role of the entire Paris Saint-Germain squad in their season’s success as the ‘Fantastic Four’ grabs all the headlines.
Along with Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr. and Mauro Icardi, Di Maria forms an attacking quartet the envy of clubs the world over. Between them, they have struck 39 of the 50 league goals PSG have scored this season.
But Di Maria is keen to point out other players have made a contribution too to helping the club move clear at the top of the table, and not just the ‘Fantastic Four’.
“We don’t like to describe ourselves like that, it’s mostly journalists who talk about it. We work just to do our best,” the Argentina international said. “There are other players like Cavani, Draxler, Sarabia…It’s true that us four have played a lot recently.

“The idea is to keep working to be better. It’s the coach who decides after that. There’s a lot of quality in attack, but for us the objective is always the same: be at 100%.”
Di Maria has been at the Parc des Princes since leaving Manchester United in 2015. An underwhelming spell at Old Trafford had come on the back of a relatively disappointing stint at Real Madrid after he had first impressed on European soil with Benfica.
The 31-year-old has been playing some of the best football of his career over the last 18 months in a PSG shirt, and Paris will be the final stop in his European adventure, though perhaps it will extend beyond his current deal, which expires in summer 2021.
“For the moment, there’s been no talks. I’ll still have a year left on my contract at the end of the season. I’m not thinking about that,” he said. “I’m calm, serene, and I work every day. At my arrival, I had said Paris Saint-Germain would be my last club in Europe before returning to Argentina.”
