Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has cast doubts on an eventual move to Spain for transfer target Edinson Cavani of PSG, the capital club having reportedly turned down an offer from the Colchoneros.
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo made it clear last week that Edinson Cavani – who has requested a transfer – can leave the club if a suitable offer comes in, but with the transfer window et to slam shut on Friday night, time is running out for El Matador.
Speaking at the fourth Madrid Sports Press Association awards gala in the Spanish capital, Cerezo – who reportedly had a second offer of somewhere between €15m and €20m rebuffed by PSG – was either looking to pile the pressure on Paris or genuinely unhopeful that a move for the Uruguay legend could be completed in time.

“These are complicated things, but what I can tell you is that there is absolutely nothing so far. Nothing more than illusions,” Cerezo – whose club have just been knocked out of the Copa del Rey and held to a league draw against Leganes – told Spanish sports daily AS. “We need to score goals and we have great strikers. But we haven’t been as lucky lately and it’s hurting us.”
So the club clearly need some good luck, but will it come their way before Friday?
“Is it possible to reach an agreement before the end of the transfer window? There aren’t many days left,” he said flatly. “We have to wait and see.”
Cavani will be out of contract with Paris at the end of the current campaign, and will be able to leave on a free transfer at that time.
