Leeds United hero Crysencio Summerville has revealed he asked for Raphinha’s blessing when taking his number this summer.
When Raphinha departed for Barcelona, his no.10 shirt became available at Leeds.
Summerville promptly took it on himself, with the 21-year-old signing a four-year contract with the club.
Speaking in an interview with De Telegraaf, Summerville spoke about his ambitions of becoming a Leeds legend.
He said: “One goal of mine is that I want to be one of the better players in Europe in the long term. I want to become important to Leeds, become a legend here.
“That’s why I got the blessing of Raphinha to take his jersey number. That this is ambitious? Sure, but I always set the bar high for myself and also have full confidence in myself.
“I thought: I want this feeling every week, for the club. Another beautiful moment has come on top of that on our own Elland Road. Indescribable. I believe very much in God and think that everything happens for a reason. Anfield, scoring there and also winning, that’s just a boyhood dream.”
