Lorius Karius claims Newcastle can ‘achieve great things’ together after playing a starring role in their recent mid-season friendly win.
The Magpies have flown to Saudi Arabia to prepare for the Premier League’s eventual restart later this month and kicked things off with a 5-0 win over high-flyers Al-Hilal.
Karius, who made his first appearance for an English club since the 2018 Champions League final with Liverpool, claimed afterwards that the side have ‘no limits’ to what they can achieve this season.

When asked about Newcastle’s Premier League targets, Karius told the club’s website: ‘We have no limit, to be honest. It’s important we get a good start… and I’m positive we can achieve great things this season.
‘I think the group has such a strong togetherness that’s very unique – and that’s what makes me positive that we will carry on the way we started before the break.’
The German goalkeeper was praised for his performance in the friendly, which was also his first appearance since signing for Newcastle in summer.
The 29-year-old was released by Liverpool in June after failing to break into the first-team following two loan spells at Besiktas and Union Berlin.
His career at Anfield was essentially written off after the two calamitous mistakes he made against Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.

Newcastle certainly could threaten to break the balance of the traditional top six in the Premier League, with Eddie Howe’s side currently sitting third in the table.
They’ve had an emphatic start to the season and have only fallen to defeat once in all competitions – which came as a 1-0 loss to Liverpool in August.
Eddie Howe will be looking to keep his players in peak condition and took his side out to Saudi Arabia for a clash against one of the nation’s top teams Al-Hilal.

This was Karius’ first appearance for an English club since the 2018 Champions League final with Liverpool, where his costly errors led to two goals in a 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid.
However, the German received high praise for his performance in Saudi Arabia after making a handful of impressive saves to earn the Magpies a cleansheet.
Goals from Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and youngster Dylan Stephenson helped Howe’s side run riot in the friendly.
Their next test sees them face Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano later on in the month.
