A football match in the Greek league started late after the players just before starting the challenge are sitting across the field in protest against the treatment that Greece is making Syrian migrants, many of whom lost their lives as they were trying to reach the islands of the Aegean.
This show of solidarity took place before the start of the match between AEL Larissa’s and Acharnaikos.
As he took the field, players, technical staff and judges sat on the field for two minutes as a sign of respect for the hundreds of refugees who lost their lives while they are trying to escape from the hell of countries like Syria or Iraq.
The stadium speaker announced for two minutes of silence for the players and for the fans to remember those hundreds of children who continue to lose their lives in the Aegan islands, due to the brutal indifference of Turkey and the EU.
“AEL players will rally for two minutes sitting, in order to push relevant authorities to mobilize in the fight against war crimes.”
Greece has become a country with the most refugees in Europe. Last Thursday 24 people drowned as their boat sank under water in search of the Greek islands.
This gesture of the players came 24 hours after the International Olympic Committee stated that the flame of the Olympics to be held in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, will pass through a refugee camp in Athens, and a refugee will be one of the holders flame. Flame will be lit in ancient Olympia on April 21, 12 days before you leave for Rio.
