Barcelona are pressuring Uruguay not to play Ronald Araujo this week.
The central defender went to the World Cup without being medically cleared from the thigh injury he sustained on September 24. The problem even forced him to undergo surgery.
The defender, who traveled with Blaugrana professionals who are supervising his recovery, is progressing well, but Barcelona fear that his national team is forcing his return. He left on the condition that he would not play the early matches of the competition.
Barcelona have spoken to the Uruguayan federation and has asked them to be extremely cautious. And they have also threatened to go to FIFA if they jeopardize the health of their professional.
“In principle, Ronald is working better every day, he is evolving,” said Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso on Wednesday.
“His body will tell us when he is fit.
“He is progressing and we are very happy with how he is doing.”
The Uruguayan national team will face South Korea this Thursday, but the Camp Nou bosses do not expect Araujo’s participation in that match or in the next ones.
