GOALKEEPER: STEVE MANDANDA
A title winner in 2010 with Marseille, the World Cup winner has since become a legend at the south-coast club. The 34-year-old who has kept 100 league clean sheets this decade, has also made more appearances than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues since 2010. He has rediscovered his best form again this season, and could yet play an important role in the next decade.
LEFT-BACK: MAXWELL
One of the most decorated players in world football, the Brazilian made just shy of 150 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring 12 goals, and winning the title on four occasions between 2012 and 2016. Left-backs with technique like Maxwell don’t come along every year…or even every decade.
CENTRE-BACK: VITORINO HILTON /
A role model for so many, the 42-year-old Brazilian is preparing for his third decade playing in France…
But it’s not just his longevity and remarkable fitness that justify his inclusion. Two league titles, with Marseille in 2010 and Montpellier in 2012, make of him one of the rare players outside of Paris to have won more than one title this decade.
CENTRE-BACK: THIAGO SILVA
‘O Mostro’ uncontestably joins as the third Brazilian in the back-line. Since arriving in France in 2012, the 35-year-old has lifted the French title on six occasions. Equally he has captained the best club this decade more than any other player in Parisian history and will soon celebrate his 200th appearance in Ligue 1. Any objections? We didn’t think so.

At right-back, the well-travelled former France international breaks the Brazilian trend in defence!
The 36-year-old may not be the biggest name in our line up but he is the most reliable! Two French titles in his Parisian days, in 2012 and 2014, boosted his credentials to make it into this XI. Spells with Lyon, Nice and Amiens have been peppered with outrageous goals, this seasoned veteran is a worthy inclusion!
MIDFIELDER: BLAISE MATUIDI /
The French international’s tireless, battling style of play made of him an immovable object at PSG between 2011 and 2017. Four titles made of him a Parisian legend! Having begun the decade as the youthful captain of Saint-Etienne, Matuidi, for his leadership and his incredible stamina, was impossible to overlook him for a place in this XI.
MIDFIELDER: FABINHO
The Brazilian was the metronome in that perfectly balanced title-winning team from the principality. Covering for marauding full-backs, and spreading the play with unnerving precision, the man who spent five years in France allowed his team-mates to shine to their fullest! Fabinho equally converted all 17 penalties he took in Ligue 1, so we know who would step up from 12 yards in this XI.
MIDFIELDER: MARCO VERRATTI
The Italian, who since arriving in Ligue 1 in 2012, has battled, and won, across every pitch in France.
His risk taking is a delight to watch, his technical ability is second to none and his commitment in the challenge is an example to all…Six-times a French Champion, only Thiago Silva can match Verratti’s trophy haul this decade…
FORWARD: EDEN HAZARD
One of the best players in Europe this past decade. The Belgian scored 30 goals between January 2010 and the summer of 2012, when he left Lille for pastures new…Seven of those goals came in Lille’s title-winning season of 2011, a glorious campaign in which he played a pivotal part. He was named Ligue 1 Player of the Season both in 2011 and in 2012…
FORWARD: ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
Who else to lead the line? Four seasons in France, four league titles, 113 goals in 122 Ligue 1 appearances including a record 38 in his final campaign, Ibrahimovic’s record speaks for itself. The giant Swede was the first name on our team-sheet!
FORWARD: KYLIAN MBAPPE /
The youngest man on the team-sheet, is Kylian Mbappe. At just 21 years old, the Parisian prodigy already has 3 French titles and 70 league goals to his name. Nobody has reached that total quicker than Mbappe, who scored 33 goals last season. Mbappe completes the line-up for this decade, and may well remain the star of French football for another ten years.
