It follows an extensive search following the departure of Dr Jim Moxon back in the summer, with manager Jurgen Klopp involved in the process.

Power, who comes from West Derby in Liverpool, previously spent over four years as the England men’s team performance medicine doctor between 2017 and 2021.

Prior to that, he was team physician to the England under-17 side that won the World Cup in 2017 and the under-19 team that claimed the European Championship that same year.

Power also worked as Brentford’s matchday doctor for two years between 2019 and 2021, as well as club doctor for Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie.

He has most recently been working as a consultant in sports and exercise medicine at the Centre for Sports and Orthopaedic Medicine in Bermuda, and as director of sport and exercise medicine at the Yorkshire Sports Exercise Clinic.

Liverpool had started their search for Moxon’s replacement in the summer with Klopp, sporting director Julian Ward, head of recovery and performance Andreas Schlumberger and director of football administration and governance Jonathan Bamber overseeing the process.

They unanimously agreed Power was the best choice from a dozen candidates interviewed.

Liverpool are due to play two matches while in Dubai, against Lyon on December 11 and AC Milan on December 16.

They return to domestic action with a Carabao Cup tie away to Manchester City on December 22 and pick up their Premier League campaign at Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
