Nantes name Ranieri's successor

FC Nantes have announced Miguel Cardoso as Claudio Ranieri’s replacement at the helm of the club’s senior team. The Portuguese coach, 46, sign from Rio Ave in his homeland.

After Sergio Conceição in season 2016-17,another Portuguese coach will take the bench at FC Nantes. On Wednesday, the club announced that Miguel Cardoso will take the reins at the club through to 2020. The 46-year-old coached Portuguese club Rio Ave last season.

Experience with Sporting and Shakthar Donetsk

Before taking charge at the Portuguese club, which he led to a fifth-placed finish last season, Miguel Cardoso was in charge of the FC Porto youth team. He then worked for a long time as an assistant coach. Since the middle of the 2000s, he worked at Portuguese clubs Belenenses, Braga, Académica and Sporting Club de Portugal as well as in the Spanish league with Deportivo La Corona and in Ukraine with Shakthar Donetsk. Season 2017-18 marked his first season as a head coach.

Miguel Cardoso succeeds Italian Claudio Ranieri who, signed in the summer of 2017, took Les Canaris to a ninth-placed finish in Ligue 1 Conforama after a valiant battle to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
