OL have announced the arrival of former Angers striker Karl Toko-Ekambi, the 27-year-old Cameroon international signing on loan through to the end of the 2019-20 season.

Cameroon international striker Karl Toko Ekambi, 27, was in Lyon on Monday to finalise his move to Olympique Lyonnais and put pen to paper on the loan deal that features an €11.5m option to buy.

The Villarreal player, who had a sensational 2017-18 campaign with Angers SCO (17 goals in 37 appearances) before making the move to La Liga, has been capped 30 times by Cameroon (three goals) and will be a welcome arrival for coach Rudi Garcia, who lost attacking lynchpin Memphis Depay – as well as gifted up-and-coming midfielder Jeff Reine-Adélaïde – to ACL injuries late in 2019.

Fighting words

“The arrival of Karl Toko Ekambi reinforces the ambitions held by Olympique Lyonnais, who are still involved in all four 4 competitions,” read a statement on the club’s official website, www.ol.fr, referring to Ligue 1 Conforama, the Coupe de la Ligue, the Coupe de France and the UEFA Champions League. “[The Club aims] to give itself the means to be at the highest level in this second part of the season.”

OL’s next challenge comes on Tuesday night when they play host to LOSC in their Coupe de la Ligue BKT semi-final at 21:10 CET.
