Valencia cult hero Vicente Guillot admits he’s a fan of the ability of Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior – but not his personality.
Guillot says the behaviour of Vinicius Jr towards opponents has turned him off this season.
One of the great entertainers of his generation, Guillot played over 150 games for Valencia, where his popularity generated a fans’ club, known as the ‘Guillotistas’. A diminutive winger boasting great pace and dribbling ability, Guillot was at the forefront of a golden age for Los Che.
During his time with VCF, the attacker won the Copa del Rey and two Fairs Cups.
Still a hero for the Valencia support and Spanish fans in general, Guillot has an affinity for today’s wingers – including Vinicius Junior. However, the admiration only stretches to the Real Madrid star’s ability.
As Guillot tells Tribalfootball.com, he is no fan of Vini Jr’s on-field antics, which has included this season taunting both opponents and opposition coaching staff.
He said, “Vini Jr is a phenomenal player but I don’t like the way he provokes and provokes the players of the opposite teams and the public too… to the extent that something could end up happening to him, God forbid.
“As a player I think he is great but I do not like him as a person because of what he does. As a person, for me, he is a ZERO. The defenders are right to complain about him. You cannot mock defenders and laugh in their faces. It’s a lack of respect and a lack of education.”
Guillot could be regarded as the Vini Jr of his day, though the 81 year-old countered: “In my day, I was a footballer with youth and talent and ability on my side and I was very capable in the 10 metres around me.
“However, I never ever mocked the opposition players. If you dribbled around them, you did not laugh them as well. Vinicius is a very disrespectful player and I have no time for players like that: ‘Es un maleducado’.”
